If any of you have walked by or through piles or scatterings of autumn leaves with a kid who's paying attention, you know that sometimes it turns into a long exercise in patience. Once they start to notice the leaves, it’s over. Forget any sort of timetable. You have just entered into the eye of the beholder, and wow, there are a lot of superstar leaves hidden in the drifts.
Lena and I and a friend went on a walk in the woods Saturday and by the end, her hat and bag were just leaf holders. The girls were SO excited to find so many special leaves.
It was a good reminder that where there are many, we often miss the magic of the individual, whispering "I am here."
Behold. A stunning, uniquely beautiful leaf.
